Case Study: CONNECT
The CONNECT software enables secure electronic health data exchange among healthcare providers, insurers, government agencies and consumer services. 5AM is helping our client evolve the software to further the exchange of health information nationwide.
The Client + The Challenge
The Federal Health Architecture (FHA), under management of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) in the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), created CONNECT to support health information exchange using nationally-recognized interoperability standards.
CONNECT is the most widely adopted open source gateway used by public and private entities to exchange health information in a secure, interoperable manner. FHA engaged 5AM, in partnership with CGI, to build and develop CONNECT into a robust open source solution that supports secure, standards-based health information exchange and “meaningful use” of health information technology.
The Result
5AM is applying its open source experience, and its Glassbox® Software Development process, to collaborate with development partners and the open source community to bring CONNECT to the next level. On the docket are improvements in which 5AM is richly experienced – stability, performance, simplified installation and deployment, robust test infrastructure, and a maintainable (and contributable) modular code base. As it continues to serve and promote IT interoperability in the U.S. healthcare system, CONNECT will evolve to be more usable and useful to those wishing to exchange health information securely and meaningfully.
We’re just beginning our work – check back here and www.connectopensource.org for updates on our progress and on upcoming releases of CONNECT.
