5AM Solutions and Stelligent Partner to Deliver "Production-quality software every day"

Shared philosophy on fundamentals of software development drives quality automation, delivery to the life sciences

Reston, VA, May 1, 2008 – 5AM Solutions, a life science software engineering firm, today announced a partnership agreement with Stelligent, Inc., an expert Agile consultancy. The agreement brings together two companies focused on delivering high-quality software using an automated, transparent, traceable development and delivery methodology.

The two companies have worked together for more than a year and the momentum of the latest success led to the formalization of the agreement. Most recently, the National Cancer Institute was the delivery target for automating the build and deployment processes across internal and external environments. The target application was NCI's caArray project (http://array.nci.nih.gov) which was undergoing a re-engineering effort led by 5AM under the direction of the NCI Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT). under a subcontract to SAIC-Frederick . The goal of this open-source software project was to support the data management for genomic experiments across a federation of cancer centers nationwide in addition to a centrally hosted application at the NCI.

According to Brent Gendleman, 5AM's CEO, "Continuous integration and automated installation were keys for success and remain essential ways to improve delivery and quality. Not only could we test earlier, the Stelligent team was able to create a set of software assets that installed, built and deployed the entire environment and application remotely across the world or on a USB flash drive!"

Stelligent focuses on creating and customizing tools, processes, and cultivating the mindset of software engineering teams to visualize and deliver "production-quality" software on a daily basis. "An automated build, test, and deployment process removes the passive 'wait for QA to test' mentality and frees up developers to delivery production-quality software every day," Paul Duvall, CTO of Stelligent, said.

The partnership enables both companies to employ their unique sets of tools and practices to promote the efficient development of quality software by providing up-to-the-minute test and quality metrics directly to clients. "Building software for the ever-evolving fields of life science is a complex endeavor," said Gendleman. "Transparency is key. Working with Stelligent allows us to demonstrate where we are and where we are going without extra effort – it's part of how we work."
