Data Illumination

Discover Meaning Hidden in Vast Datasets

We’re all aware of the massive amounts of data generated by research; throw items like microarray data or image collections into the mix, and the volume increases dramatically.

caArray

caArray, developed for the National Cancer Institute, allows management of collaboration groups, handles publication workflows, and manages massive amounts of data – users can expose their experiments to individuals, groups, or the world.

The effort spent to store, share, and organize research information impacts efficiency. If you cannot access your own information, or view relevant results from other studies, information overload impedes rather than enables progress. 5AM Solutions’ software bridges the information gap, providing usable, customized solutions to solve the data and workflow problems in our clients’ worklives.

Data in Different Formats, from Different Places

Assembling results and integrating diverse data sets is typically is a human-driven process, and needn’t be. 5AM’s expertise in data management, integration, and standards-based representation can allow human beings to put their minds to analysis and understanding, driving toward results. 5AM can help you assemble, view, and understand your information. Having a view of your data can help you connect the dots, to focus on your mission instead of dealing with data formats.

Software can lift you above the tide. 5AM works with you to create software that illuminates your data, helping you to visualize, analyze, and find hidden meaning in it.

Examples of Data Illumination

  • Supporting N different array designs from M different chip vendors, not to mention countless custom designs, caArray, developed for the National Cancer Institute, is able to efficiently distill common characteristics to facilitate abstraction and cross type searching, while still maintaining the discrete data differences among the different array designs. It does so efficiently and with high performance – caArray is one of the most frequently adopted of the caBIG® tools.
  • Also for the National Cancer Institute, 5AM created a standards-based web service to provide person and organization information to any application requiring it. The organization no longer has to support development of the same component across projects, and data integrity is ensured across projects – it’s now managed and curated in a central location, shared and used by applications across the enterprise.
  • 5AM worked with UCLA to design a bi-directional web services-based data exchange mechanism that united a legacy system with the system we developed, allowing a paced adoption of the new tool and ensuring that older data could be part of the new system.
